Frequent Questions

The Event On the Day:

Weddings: Do you record the first dance?

Yes, in fact when the location and conditions allow we often like to make a mini production from this as part of your video. It can be a key point in the video using your selected music. It can also provide a suitable ending to your day's event.

Weddings & Events: Do you record speeches in full?

Yes we do. Provided your speeches do not run beyond 40 minutes in total then we aim to include all the speeches in full.

Weddings: We are getting married in a church, do you include the hymns?

Not all of the hymns. We often use the first verse and the last verse of a hymn to link from one part of the service to the next. In addition, many people don't like to see themselves attempting to sing when they might look awkward or self-conscious. We use our judgement.

Weddings: Do you cover bride preparations?

Yes, but we make an additional charge as this often extends the recording day. Please contact us or see Other Rates Available on the Packages & Prices page. Generally, it can often depend upon the amount of space available where you are preparing, how many people are in the room and the time and location in relation to the location of your ceremony. Country House weddings are often better as you will have a little more space than your own bedroom perhaps. In addition, the ceremony location is very close, therefore more time can be allocated for this requirement.

General & Technical:

    What experience do you have?

A whole lifetime in Broadcast Television and Professional Video Production. Started a 35-year broadcast television career at Granada Television in the mid 1970s. Worked in all technical areas of broadcast television in the UK, the USA and Australia - freelance as a broadcast documentary maker. Director and Producer credits for previously published work.

Moving Memory Professional Video is now in its third successful year.

Your prices are a lot less than other wedding & event video producers?

We also do other video work besides weddings and events. In addition, low overheads and an efficient workflow as well as looking to provide excellent value for clients in these difficult times. "You get what you pay for..." is not a truism as our past clients will testify. We cannot be the only ones who are astonished at some of the overly inflated prices being charged for a wedding video. Testimonials (references) of our past work are available. See our sample playlist on our front page - these are short extracts from real video productions.

How long do we have to wait to receive our DVDs?

Normally about 4-6 weeks, but in busy times of the year this may extend to no longer than 8 weeks.

We take care in putting your video together; for a full-day wedding video for example it often takes about 5-7 (long) days to edit your video and a day to complete the DVD menu graphics, DVD insert packaging and DVD burning. We then individually spot test each DVD before shipping. However, please remember each production is different so it can be as "long as it takes..." depending on your event.

What if we want more DVDs?

The DVD content is licensed to you for non-broadcast use. You can either make a few more copies yourself or we can do that for you. If you want us to provide more copies then we will charge £15 per additional DVD (£18 for Blu Ray DVDs) as this includes DVD printing, cover inserts and case - plus special postage delivery.

Do you use a second camera?

Yes, we use the Sony HXR-NX5 or Sony HVR-Z5 camera. However this depends upon the location. Some churches for example do not allow the use of more than one "official" video camera at any one time.

    Do you record in 1920x1080?

Yes. But you will see very little difference between a recording in HDV "anamorphic 1440x1080" and "full size 1920x1080" video given the same lighting conditions. In fact we often mix the two formats together on one DVD timeline as the two are the same albeit in pixel shape (the former rectangular; the latter square).

What about audio? What sound recording equipment do you use?

We record a wide stereo sound image for atmosphere where possible with action and spot effects recorded in mono. We use Audio Technica 1821 dual wireless lapel microphones and other Audio Technica professional microphones. Our recording devices are the Marantz Professional PMD661s digital recorders. Our investment in audio equipment alone is over £2,000.

Do you include animated DVD menus and graphics?

Yes. We use professionally produced motion-graphic menus. These are professionally designed motion graphics for Main Menu and Scene Selection options.

Can we decide what music or what content is included in the DVD?

Yes as to the music, but we do need to make sure each music track chosen can be granted MCPS usage . You can discuss with us what music you would like to have included in the final content prior to recording. But as regards overall content please remember that your DVD is an edited representation of your day - it is an artistic production produced by us in accordance with your requirements - this is what you are hiring us to do. Also be aware that any music other than that recorded at your event might require a usage licence - please discuss this with us before you make your music selection.

Is a standard DVD good quality?

In our opinion the results we produce on a Standard DVD are excellent, even viewed on a 42-inch TV screen. Don't get confused with SD format - the DVD video is a 1080 format burned on to a Standard DVD. It is the same edited video produced for Blu Ray HD burning. We record and edit in HD (27mb/s combined). The video retains much of the original recorded definition. We do NOT downscale the original image, which often causes loss of definition.

Can I play the DVD back on my PC?

Yes, if your PC DVD player has a de-interlacer, which most have these days although of varying quality. The DVD is intended to be played back on a TV not a PC and monitor. Be aware that your PC and TV may rescale or readjust the dimensions to fit its own resolution settings. All DVDs supplied are PAL UK video format for playback in the UK - All Regions are flagged.

We also provide a flash file USB memory storage stick which is ideal for better quality anytime playback on your PC system - see below.

How long does the DVD content run?

It depends upon your event. For weddings this can be from 40 minutes to a maximum of 80 minutes in length. It depends what you want included and the nature of your event. Productions are edited content often divided into titled chapters selectable from a Scenes Selection menu. But please note, just because we might spend 4 hours continually recording at your event does not mean your DVD content will be 4 hours in duration.

You also provide USB High Quality Memory Sticks - Why?

Your video content is provided on DVD because this is the most frequently used and cost-effective media, and has been for the last decade or so.

Increasingly people are now using USB memory sticks to store their images and videos. Memory sticks now have larger storage capacities at a more affordable price. By using flash file encoding we can increase the overall quality we deliver as the storage capacity on a memory stick is much greater than the Standard Format DVD. As a result we can increase the sample rate to about twice that used on the Standard DVD Format - which results in better quality, but considerably increases the video file size.

What type of DVDs do you use?

Good ones. We use Verbatim Single and Double Layer DVDs at a write speed of no more than 4x as any higher can cause read-write errors. For content over 60 minutes using standard DVDs we often use Verbatim Dual Layer discs. Also Verbatim, for Blu Ray content. We do not get our DVDs from the QuikiMart.

What type of DVD cases do you supply?

The same size and similar design as commercially available DVD videos with printed inserts - Hollywood cases. We also provide "Jewel" or "Leather" bound DVD cases upon request.

Can I upload content to my Facebook page or to YouTube?

No, sorry. But please contact us first if you wish to do this and we will advise you. The DVDs are produced and licensed for personal viewing only. Uploading any part of the video containing a music track for example is in violation of copyright and of our own Terms & Conditions. You could be liable for additional copyright usage charges (and possible legal fees) from the music publishers as rights to broadcast music tracks included with the video are separate to those obtained for your personal viewing of DVDs. Please contact us first.

Are you a member of any video or photographic trade association?

Yes, we are a member of the Institute of Videographers and as such follow their codes of practice.

    Are You Insured?

Yes. We have Public Liability Insurance with Fortis of Gloucester. Policy number available on request.

Does Your Equipment Meet PAT Electrical Certification?

Yes. But all our technical equipment uses battery power only. As a result, we do not plug any of our equipment into the venue's power sockets, therefore Health & Safety relating to PAT Certification is not applicable.
